Nobody at the studio expected the slowest creature in the game to be the one people wanted on a shelf. We were wrong about that, cheerfully.
Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered before we knew whether this would clear. You are the reason it did.
A Saltmarch race takes four real days. You pick a shell, you point it at the horizon, and you come back between lessons and shifts to find you have moved about as far as you expected. Odo is the tortoise every player starts in before they unlock anything quicker, and the studio's own numbers say most people never switch.
Brasswork Club sent us the shell topology, the bib artwork and a folder of early race-marshal sketches. The shell was the whole problem. It had to hold a dome firm enough to read as a shell from across a room, stay soft enough that somebody can sleep on it, and keep doing both after a year of being dragged around by one leg.
Twelve quilted panels over a foam dome is the answer. Fewer panels and the dome creases; more and the seams start to feel like ridges. The bib is a woven label stitched down at four corners rather than a print, because printed numbers crack along exactly the fold a plush gets carried by.
We make one thing at a time. Odo closed in May and is with the factory now; the workshop has moved on to the next campaign, which is why this page reads as a record rather than a shop.
Dates move. When one does we post the new one and say why, rather than letting the old one quietly pass.
